DOS stands for disk operating system!!! Here, I have written a clean article for you to getting know about DOS commands and what is DOS.

It is an operating system released by Microsoft that is centuries old(i mean its use stopped completely at around 1995,as far as i know).

It is a character user interface, usually users what call it as command interface, where for executing each instruction you need to give commands which is boring and not like Microsoft xp,vista and 7, whereas operating systems like mac osx, windows xp, windows 7 and windows 8 are the most popular graphical user interface with ease which lets you execute instructions easily(like we do these days).

These commands we are using now also in Command Prompt:

Eg: dxdiag,calc,attrib

Difference between DOS command and RUN command:-

Run commands are made for windows system (DOS is also developed by windows, but, here, Iam referring it to the latest versions as the windows in the above context) and usually the RUN commands can support some dos programs, and a RUN command called “cmd” is usually used to open the command prompt box, RUN commands can be able to run even some windows system programs also with some pre-defined commands.

On the other hand, the cmd commands are made for previous DOS commands which were used in the older systems, the DOS commands helps access various options just by typing the appropriate keyword for the program. The programmers usually used the DOS commands and related methods in order to develop the system. So, because of this reason, using computers at those times is like a tedious job for new users with commands, so, an user-interface has been developed for popularity among people, but the programmers need to use to the DOS access methods at the same times, in case of trouble-shooting the problems. So, the operating systems of newer versions are made included with the “Disk Operating System” commands
and terminal. But, computer enthusiasts, rather than just knowing the user-interface only, they started to dig what is DOS and they were curious about learning the commands and usage, as me and as you reading this -:ajay:-

You should know about one thing, that there are two types of commands in the disk operating system called as the:
1.External DOS commands
2.Internal DOS commands

The external DOS commands are the commands which can used both in the RUN terminal and command prompt terminal. Whereas, the internal commands are the commands which can be used only inside the command prompt terminal.
